The 'Extension Arable Crops' Research Group develops practical solutions for the ecological regulation of diseases and pests, and tests varieties of different arable crops in terms of their suitability for cultivation and use under Swiss conditions. A holistic approach is respected here with the aim of developing cost-efficient, sustainable and climate-resilient agricultural systems.     

Grain legumes are highly valuable crops from a nutritional and agronomic point of view. You will gain an insight into a European research project (www.CROPDIVA.eu ) to promote these underutilised crops. This internship provides comprehensive knowledge on conducting field experiments, assessing crop performance, post-harvest preparation and laboratory analyses. As part of an interdisciplinary team, you will be able to apply the acquired knowledge and, with your commitment, you will contribute to the successful implementation of the project.

This is how you can contribute

  • Assisting in field experiments and harvest with lentils & hull-less barley in mixed cultivation
  • Data collection: Monitoring of plant growth, weed pressure, diseases and pests, pollinator count 
  • Post-harvest work: Assistance in processing and organising samples for laboratory analyses (quality and phytosanitary status (seed health test, Elisa, qPCR)
 

This makes you unique

  • Completed BSc or MSc in agronomy, biology or a comparable field
  • Strong interest in practical research as well as enjoyment of and stamina in field work
  • Expertise in arable farming and knowledge of statistics are desirable
  • Committed, flexible, reliable and team-oriented personality
  • Knowledge of two official Swiss languages and good command of English
